Waste disposal

  • In 2011, we deposited a total of 110,000 tonnes of waste at the Barje dump, which in a way is significant progress, given that in early 1990 the annual amount of deposited waste was up to 300,000 tonnes. On the other hand, we still lag far behind the best European examples: Germany deposits just 1% of all waste, the Netherlands 2%, and Denmark, Sweden and Belgium up to 5%.
  • Waste disposal is the last possible waste removal option in countries with high environmental standards. The applicable directive on waste, which also serves as the basis for national regulations, encourages us to change and become a "recycling society" - i.e. a society that prevents waste generation and uses waste as a source of energy and raw materials.
